Some thoughts on forgiveness ...
My main character, Claire, has a lot to forgive. The problem is, she doesn’t want to.
Forgiving is hard. The whole seventy times seven thing...it stings. And what if they don’t apologize?
A common misconception about forgiveness is that by giving it, you give the person who did wrong a pass — a ‘get out of jail free’ card.
It is sometimes comforting to hang onto bitterness as a prized possession. Nurturing justified anger feels right, but it will turn us into someone we weren’t meant to be. It puts us in bondage, chaining us to the very person who hurt us.
Forgiveness sets us free. We think giving it is for THEM, but it is so much more for us.
That may be why Jesus told us to forgive quickly and often. He designed it that way.
Claire’s journey to forgiveness takes some tight twists and turns, but you’ll have to read the book to find out how it ends.
